Te Ahu a Turanga Noho Marae

Description:  In week 7, we had an overnight stay at the local Marae in Woodville.  We were immersed in Maori culture and participated in a range of activities.  We set two goals to focus on during our stay.


Big Idea:  
1.  Did you achieve your goals?  How do you know?
I achieved my goals and I know because I wasn't too tired when we were doing the gorge walk. When we were having dinner I had never tried the beans I tried them and I kind of liked them.
2.  What are you most proud of from the marae stay and why?
That I wasn't the one that kept me and Eva up it was Eva giggling until I blocked my ears with my pillow.
3.  What challenged you the most and why?
Doing the gorge walk because there were so much hills on the way up.

We have been learning about transformation.  We have specifically learnt that...

  • translation is when an object slides in any direction;

  • rotation is when an object is turned around a central point;

  • reflection is when an object is flipped and has a line of symmetry.

Our challenge was to design a car badge that contained at least one of these aspects of transformation.   

I think aria did really well because hers shows reflection, order, translation rotation and it has a line of symmetry but I thing she needs to work on nothing

I think I did pretty well at adding transformation into my badge. Next time I think I could make sure they are the same size and are in line with each other.

Purpose: create a story to share orally
Description: Oral storytelling is a Maori tradition. We have been planning our own story to tell on the Marae in Week 7.

Success Criteria:

  • Between 1 and 2 minutes long

  • Using your voice to make sounds effects

  • Using your whole body to make actions

  • Use your face to tell a story through facial expression

  • Knowing the story, knowing the setting

  • Get the picture into your listener’s head

  • Stay in character - keep your composure.

  • Audience participation

  • Unique and original (Hook your audience)

    I think that I did a good job at actally getting up and doing it. Next I think I should speak Louder so the audience can hear me and also I need to add some crowd paticapation because the croud will get bored. Last of all I need to know my story better. Maybe if I do all of these things I will get more confidence to do infront of a bigger croud.

My reading goal

In class we did a STAR test. We used our results to form a reading goal. 

Big idea: my goal for reading is comprehension. 
This means to understand more of what I read.
To achieve this goal I will make a picture in my mind of what the author has said.

Bus stop writing

Description: describe the characteristics of an object

I was walking on the street when I saw a out of ordinary bus stop it was a recycled old school bus. It was yellow all over with lights and school bus written on the front. It was different and unusual and interesting. It's quite fancy because it's got actual seats from a bus. It was an amazing mind blowing bus. It was a creative and random thing to do.
