Prep is a time when we work on our stuff for market day I am in a group with Atlanta and Charlotte. We made tic tac toe bags and we worked really hard to get them done we had a $20 budget to make products to sell our group only spent $2.35 we made 20 and they all sold in the first 40 minutes. We could of made more because we still had lots more money but we didn't have any more time. Lots of locals came to school to come around and look at our stalls.

Last week we had a crazy hair day on Friday and in maths we have been focusing on statistics and we were making surveys. The teachers made a survey about what you wanted to see at market day as an example and Sophie, Bella, Charlotte and I made a survey on crazy hair day to see if people would particapate. Then we had to collect the data and make a graph. Here is our survey and graph

Kapahaka portfolio sample term 3

Description: On Wednesday night the Kapahaka and Band performed at the northern cluster at the regent. Kapahaka is when a group of people come together and perform moari Waita. I was not able to perform on the night because I went to the netball. But at school we had a whole Kapahaka photo in our uniform and then had a dress rehearsal in front of the whole school. Even though I wasn't there I am sure our group was amazing. The northern cluster is a festival and the schools in the northern part of Palmerston North come together and perform. Our Kapahaka needed the band because the band had learnt hall of fame and then the kapahaka translated the chorus into moari. I am in both the band and the Kapahaka. I think I have been doing well at Kapahaka and band because I have been focused and I have been working hard. I am most proud of me learning the song in moari. I was challenged by all of the new words. Next time I need to be putting more passion into it. Here is us performing.
 Day performance Live performance
Feedback/feedfoward I think that you did. Great job and looked really confident and I like the actions that you did in panekiretanga- Atlanta

Art portfolio sample

This term we have been doing art for our calendars, and we are doing our self portraits. The first stage was to think about what represents us and draw the ideas down. The second stage was draw our ideas onto A3 card. The third stage was to practise using paint and pastel for our backgrounds. The fourth stage was to practice drawing our self portrait and after that we had a practice, we got some card and drew the real thing. The last thing we did was the background. We used paint pastel and dye to make the background look effective. Here is a slide showing some effects we used and the finished peice.

Feedback/Feedforward:Wow Aria I really like your art because you have used lots of different colours but next time you could not have as much white.

PVA glue avalanche portfolio sample

Description: this term I have been in Troy's writing this was decided by our next goal in our report. I am working on words. We watched a video about how tennis balls are made. When we watched the video we wrote down words that came to mind while we were watching the video. With the words we picked  5 that we liked the most and used those words to make a story. The story could be nothing about tennis or tennis balls so no one would suspect it was from a video about how tennis balls are made.
Here is the link to the video.

Evaluation: Thanks Charlotte I agree that I needed to add more describing words so I could add some more detail. I really like what I have done other than that.

I really like your story maybe next time you could add some describing words.-Charlotte

Book buddies

This term for reading we have been doing book buddies which is when you have a reading buddy and you pick a book together you will take it home to read. My Buddy is Abby and we are both in bookapedia and the whole of Bookapeadia were given a book called the name at the end of the ladder. We have a slide that we have to fill out with what we have read and what we have done. During book buddies you read or you can do a tic tac toe, which is different tasks related to the book. We also have to have a discussion with our partner about what we have read so far. We also have to have a coaching session with our teacher to see where we are up to. So far I have finished the book
Here is my discussion with Abby

Discovery time sample

Every monday from 9:15 - 1:00 we do discovery time with poutokomanawa. We can do things like finger knitting, sewing, art, stilts, skipping, going on pogo sticks, make a mini golf course, building, tents/huts and much more. Last week I did sewing and I made a pillow which was fun because i had never made a pillow before then i went on the stilts. during discovery time each class will at some point go and do gymnastics. I have so much fun doing discovery time
Here is my Excellence slide

Evaluation: I have done well at doing stuff that i want to do not what my friends want to do. But i could start doing things that i haven't done before.

Maths portfolio sample term 3 2016

For maths this term we have been focusing on measurement. We were given a measurement passport with lots of fun measurement activities for us to do and learn. We were given a test at the end of last term saying measurement questions we had to estimate and work out. There were capacity, weight and area questions. We did this test to see what we can do in the measurement area. Then we would place them on a rubric on either 1, 2, 3, or 4. I put myself as a 2 because i had only done a little bit of working out and my estimations were guess's so i put myself as 2. Then this term we redid the test and to see if the workshops helped and when i redid the test i found all of them easier then last time but i did have a bit of trouble doing the weight question. then we put the tests on the rubric and i moved from 2-3 so that means i did better than last time.
We made a slide to evaluate our measurement.

Discovery time week 2

Today at discovery time I made a sewed a pillow. I made it out of scraps of material. I discovered that when you actually are using small stiches the pillow will stay together tightly. I found having the patience hard to do all the stiching. I still have some things to do so I am taking it home to finish.

Discovery time reflection

Every Monday from 9:20- 12:40 we do discovery time with poutokomanawa. We do many activities so we can discover and learn from the activities. We have a 30 minute CMIYC session somewhere in the time. This week I made Gloop or Oobleck which is a solid and a liquid. I discovered that when you push down on the gloop fast it's solid and when you put your finger in slow it is a liquid. The other activity was tents. I discovered that it is quite hard to put up a tent with a beginner and putting down the tent. I discovered when you cover the tent in blankets it gets really hot really fast.

SLC reflection

On Tuesday I had my SLC which is a student led conference which is what we do at the end of each term
1) How do you think you did on your SLC? What was the highlight?
I think I did really well at explaining my learning and not just saying what was on the screen. My highlight was showing my learning to my mum
2) What did you do differently to make your SLC stand out?
I spoke from my heart and not the screen and asking my mum questions about my learning.
3) How will you make your Home Led Conference in Term 3 be awesome? What things might you do to make it awesome?i might go somewhere like a cafe and do it over lunch and make my family feel like they have been in my class

Seed to table

Seed to table is a session that we do from 10-1 on a Friday. In the session you do gardening or science experiments and cooking for your lunch. This week for Seed to table we are having minestrone soup, potatoe and leek bake, bread and apple and fejoa crumble. I was involved in the potatoe bake with Rosie, Naomi, Tane, Catilin, Edward, Eli and Jacob. While our group and group 1 were doing cooking groups 3 and 4 do a science experiment then after morning tea we are doing the science experiment and the others are doing baking. For the science experiment we got some seeds and wet some paper towels in water then got some seeds wrapped the paper towel around them and then we put the seeds in a plastic resealable bag. I chose pea seeds because I was interested in if they would grow.

Kapahaka portfolio sample term 2

Every Monday afternoon Poutama splits into two groups kapahaka and E T reo. I go to kapa Haka, kapa Haka is a performing group and E T reo is when you learn about the Maori culture and language.
For kapa Haka we are going to pae tamariki on the 28th of June. We have been practising really hard because we have been moved to the second day because we are more experienced in kapa Haka.

Here is a video of us practicing

Feedback/ Feedforward: I like the way that the whole kapa Haka group is in time next time you could do better facial expressions. - Emily

Evaluation: What is the hardest part about Kapa Haka and why? Keeping yourself committed to the group by doing facial expressions and making sure you are always focussed
What are you most looking forward to about Pae Tamariki next week and why? I am most looking forward to going on stage and showing what rss can bring to the table.
Why do you think others should join Kapa Haka? Others should join because it is Learning moari culture and language in the form of song and dance.
I like doing kapa Haka because we are singing and dancing and that is what I am interested in.

Description: At the moment for P.E we have been doing sportstart which is a sports program, we go down to the courts twice a week to do the program. At sportstart have been doing different drills like Gateways, color rounders and rainbow strike.

Color Rounders:
First you have 4 hula hoops set up in a circle with a ball in each hoop and a bat in one, there are 8 people playing in each game 4 people stand in each hula hoop and the others are fielders they stand in between each hoop. One of the fielder bowls to the person with the bat once they have hit the ball, everybody in the hoop run around in circles until the fielder gets the ball, as the people in the hoops run around one person counts how many hoops they got, once every body has had a go at batting you switch roles.

Rainbow strike:
First split into two teams one fielding one batting, (this game must be played on a court with three thirds) one of the fielders bowl and the first one in line on the batting team bats, if it lands in the first third that's 1 point if it lands in the second third that 2 points and if it lands in last third that's 3 points, once everybody has batted switch roles.

For gateways you need lots of cones put out in twos with the cone a metre away from the pair this is the gateway. Each "gateway" has either a bean bag, tennis ball or a ring. Everyone gets a partner and then the pairs go to a gateway and start throwing the object to each other after a couple of minutes the teacher will either say change or change all and if they say change you will change to a different station with a different object if they say change all that means you do the same as change except you change partners as well.

Here is me and Tabitha doing a demonstration of gateways

Feedback/Feedforward I like the way that you showed exactly how to play gate ways. Next time you could make your pass more accurate.- Charlotte W

Evaluation: i think that we were showing how to play gateways really well but if i were to change something i would make a more clear and better quality

Science portfolio sample term 2 2016

This term we having been learning about science and every friday we do inquiry. Nics group is learning about the moon, Troys group is learning about the weather and Ellys group is doing
Seed-To-Table. I have been working with troy and we got to choose what we wanted to focus on and I wanted to learn about snow and snow storms, then got to choose a experiment about our focus. My experiment was to make snow and then make a snow storm in a jar.
In Nics group we had that when we did our science priorities we had to go outside and measure the moon to the sun and to the horizon with our fists and find what shape the moon is. if we could not see the moon clearly you could go on this website to find the shape of the moon. After you have got the measurements and the shape you needed to make a sketch of the moon with the exact shape and measurements, then you would put it on your slide and blog.
Here is one of my sketches.

In Troys science we have been doing weather experiments I chose as my focus on weather as Snow
and how does snow form and how does the snow turn into a snowstorm. I chose to do a snow and snowstorm experiment with Sophie because she is doing a similar question. We have made the snow and it turned out well and we are going to do a snowstorm expirment. The snowstorm turned out really well we used a jar, baby oil, white paint, water and alka seltzer we made the experiment and it turned out awesome
Here is the link to the video
Here is my slide Feedback/Feedforward: Wow aria what a cool experiment next time you explain a bit about what happened and how you thought it went.
- Tabitha C

Evaluation: I think that I did a good job at making sure that Sophie and I were able to do the experiments because I bought in stuff for us to make our experiments more awesome. If we were to do it again I would try to be a bit more organised.

Cross country goal

Today is cross country and we were given a task to choose a goal for ourselves.
My goal is to come in the top 5 because I want to go to interschool cross country and I want to beat Charlotte Hagan. I also want to come in the top five because I have been working hard

Maths test

Last week we did a maths test and I did a stage six test because at the start of the year I did the stage six test. This time we did a different test from the start of the year, but it was the same stage. At the start of the year I got 58% which was a good score but now that I have been practicing I got 64% on the test I just did. I did all of the questions I knew like the addition, subtraction and multiplication first. I did the harder questions second because I knew that if I focused on the questions I had to work out then I wouldn't get as many right. I have been practising so i am happy that I got more right than last time. I have improved with my maths, and I thought that I would only get one more right but I got 4 more right.

Maths portfolio sample term 2

This term in maths we have been focusing on fractions, So we were learning about proper fractions, improper fractions, mixed fractions, adding fractions, converting fractions and imagining that the fraction was the other way around to work it out.
We were given a rich task about Lego mixels...

I knew that in 300 there were 5 sixties so, 1/5 of 300 is 60
I knew that 1/5 is the same as 2/10 so it would be 60 as well.
If 2/10 is 60 so 1/10 is 30.

Evaluation: I think I have been doing well at fractions this term but I think there are a couple things I need to work on like adding fractions, I think I did well in the rich task but I struggled a little bit.

Feedback/feedfoward Good job Aria you did well explaining how you got the answers but next time you could work on adding fraction but over all you did well.
- Sophie

Bookapedia Term 2 researching skills

Title Skimming and scamming
WALT: create criteria to evaluate sources
We had been given these articles and then asked questions so we had to skim and scam to find the answer I got 5/5

A good source:

-has a good reputation, be from a trusted expert

-not ask you for private information or have virus warnings

-contain the keywords/information you are looking for

TITLE: Summarising
WALT: Persist to find information to gain a wider perspective
We were given a question then we researched and Summed it up into 10 ideas.

Skill 3
TITLE: Notetaking
WALT: Organize our notes to make connections and find gaps

Feedback/Feedforward: I think that you need to add more of a description to the tasks. You did well at evidencing your learning.- Harriet

Evaluation: I think I agree with Harriet I could have added more description for my tasks. I think I have done well with evidencing my learning and saying what the skill we were learning was.

This term the year 6's have been given the opportunity to learn Japanese with Kelly on a Thursday afternoon. Kelly is passionate about Japan and their language, Kelly has been to Japan twice and has learnt how to speak Japanese. We have done two sessions and we have already learnt to say and write to ten in Japanese. I have been having the nicest time learning Japanese and can't wait to learn more. Each week Kelly chooses two people who have been working hard and focused and gets them to go head to head with trying to eat as many marshmallows as they can while using chopsticks.
Here is my slide

Wow Aria you are doing so well, I think you could improve still maybe you could try speaking fluently without words infront of you, otherwise you are doing amazing.
- Tabitha C

Evaluation:  I think that I have been very focused in Japanese and making sure I am listening to the things the senseis tell us so I can remember some Japanese things. I have been excited for the trip because it is another opportunity to learn more about Japan

Today in maths I was working on equivalent fractions, so I wrote down all if the 1/4s, 1/2s and 1/7s. I played a matching game where you have to match a fraction with one that is equivalent to the other.

Monday, 16 May 2016

Today in maths I had a workshop about equivalent fractions. We were learning about what's equivalent to a quarter and halves. We were given a task to find what is equivalent to 1/7 but I didn't get it so I write down all of the 1/4 and 1/2 equivalents.

Here is some of the other work I did.

A metaphor sentence.

Today's taskforce writing was to write a metaphor sentence. This is my sentence.

Fact or Fib

In our writing workshop we did fact or fib, fact or fib are when you ask one or two questions and someone has to guess which ones a fib or fact.
Do you think it's a fact or a fib

The moon

Today we did a second video about the earth, the moon, the sun. We did this because we had learnt some more facts about the moon, the sun and the earth work and I work with Sophie.

17/5/16 moon

The moon today is hidden behind a cloud but we could still see a little glimpse of the moon.
Here is my drawing and measurements.

Bayan tree art

Last term we did some art with Anna. We did Bayan tree art, bayan trees are the trees with the roots ubove the ground not inside the earth. First we looked at some pictures and then drew the outlines of the tree. Then we coloured it in with black paint. When they dried we coloured in the spaces in between the branches, the background and the water. Here is my art

Handwriting post

Description: Last week the teachers set us a task to write a poem, making sure it is legible and accurate while doing it in five minutes. We had to rate ourselves in 1- 5 I rated myself a four because I did over 40 words in five minutes. I didn't do it fast but I did it accurate and legible. My goal for accuracy is placement and for fast it is to finish the poem with it being perfect.

Evaluation: I think I did well because I was meeting the standard if I were to do it again I would try to get beyond the high standards.

The Moon

This term we are focusing on the moon so we made a 10-15 second movie about the moon, the sun and the earth and how they rotate. We used three different type of balls like a marble, a soft ball and a  big ball. The balls represent the moon, the sun and the earth. I made my video with Sophie.

Today in my workshop we did a fraction word find that Scott gave us. It was a very clever word find and it spelt out fractions. Here is the word find we did.

Today I have been working on mixed fractions and converting mixed fractions into proper and improper fractions. Also another thing I have been learning to do is to add fractions. I think I did well at the fractions that are upside down but I could work on converting and adding the fractions. Here is some of the work I did today.

Monday, 2 May 2016

I think I did well at the mixed  fractions but I could work on converting and adding the fractions. Here is some of the work I did today

Today we started a new passport, we are learning about fractions and ratios. Today I focused on fractions and went on a game from the passport and worked out the answers in my book. After I had a wonderful workshop with Scott.I think that I did well at getting stuck into my learning. Next time I need to work on having a sense of urgency. The work we did with Scott was to do with fractions and doing like halve of the eyes blue and 1/3 of the teeth yellow. Here are some of the work I did today!

And here is the work I did with Scott

Sharing my learning with some people from Massey

Today 30 students came from Massey university. I got asked to share my learning with one of them. I shared my SLC learning and she was very impressed and thought that it was awesome that we had a word that summed up our goal. She thought that my writing was clever how in the mini stories I had a parents perspective.

Why your child should go to camp

Description: We wrote 3 different stories. One was about Camp, Embarrassing or Buddy Challenge Day and I chose to do my camp writing because I had lots of fun and I wanted to share that. We choose one of them to publish and then we edited them and put our stories on our blog. The purpose of this is to practice using pies which is pursade, inform, entertain and self. And I chose pursade.

Why your child should go to camp

Camp is an important of a child's school journey. Camp helps your child develop friendship. When your child comes home they are happy and confident and have learnt lots of things about themselves and have grown in their character. They will have tried new things and foods and taking risks.

They will come home with amazing stories to tell. Like I tried all the foods that was given to me and I liked them all but one. I tried lettuce for the first time and it was like a worm sliding down my throat. Then they will tell you that they would like all the meals at home.

The benefits are that they can have fun on camp while you are relaxing at home. It will be worth the money because your child will learn lots for their future.

If they come home with a story like I was on a horse called Mini, who was the most mysteriously miniature mini horse you have ever seen, then you're probably like “yeah that's cool”. But then mini got a bee sting while I was on her, then you're probably like “oh was she alright?” Then your child says “ the horse freaked out while I was on her and she was jumping around like crazy kicking everyone. Then you're probably like ahhhhh how is this safe? I want refunds was anyone helping my child? But don't worry there were instructors helping your child while on Horses, Rifles, Archery and Kayaks.

If your child comes home saying I went on the kayaks you're probably like “oh that's good Did you learn how to Kayak? Then your child will most likely say yes but I'm not very good, then most people say at least you tried. Least likely your child will say I tipped my Kayak over while i was on it, but to be fair it was slippery like a banana peel. Then you're most likely freaking out like crazy asking if they were alright if they were choking and how long they were under for?

This is good for your child because they are learning. If you send them to camp they will try new things. They may make mistakes but that is proof they are trying. The benefits are that your child can learn from their mistakes and find out what they were doing wrong.

If you know your child is a super shy kid or hasn't got many friends or doesn't make friends as easy as others. Just send them to school camp they will come back excited and having lots of new friends.
Come and see your child perform with their activity group on the skit concert, you can see your child work together in a group of a range of different people.

There may be a cost but if you want your child to be more confident and have more growth in their character then that's the price you have to pay. When you have gone to camp you have a whole bunch of butterflies in your stomach and that happy feeling that you went to camp and survived it and came home in one piece. If you want your child to go to camp then YAY you have been persuaded!! If you have not then have you been to school camp and realised how much fun it is!!! Because camp is an important part of a child's school journey.

Feedback/ feedfoward: I like how you did a guide to camp and how it's It is important for us to go
To camp.( I can't find anything bad about it )Ruby.

Evaluation: I think I could of used some similes and descriptive words to make my story more interesting. I think i did well at trying to pursade people.

Whakapapa/ Family tree

Description: In poutama we have been learning about our family tree and the maori names for mum and dad and all of our family. First we made a draft and found out about our family then we started thinking about our presentation. Here is my presentation of my family tree

And here is some Maori terminology for you to learn

mama - Mum
 papa - Dad
Tungane - Brother
Tuakana - Sister
Koro - Grandfather
 Kuia- Grandmother
mama Keke - Aunty
Papa Keke - Uncle
Tama - Boy
Tamahine - Girl

Awesome job Aria you could do a great job of a task in so little time next time you could add some colour to make it come to life and pop.
- Tabitha

Evauation: I think that I did a good job at doing my family tree with the short amount of time I was given. Next time I could add a bit more detail and colour. I think that if I asked my parents a bit more about my family I could add some more family.

2016 Camp El Rancho Portfolio sample

Description: On the 8th of March the year 5/6s went to Camp El Rancho in Waikene. We stayed for 4 days and 3 nights. We were involved in ten different activities such as the Pool, Archery, Mini Golf, Water Slide, Rifles, Horses, Low Ropes, Kayaking, Rafts and Team intiatives. We stayed in three different Cabin blocks, Poplar for the Girls, Oregen for the Boys and Willow for Boys and Girls. I stayed in Poplar lodge. I was in Cabin Three with all my friends. We were in ten activitie groups of around 9-12 people in each group. The activity groups were the people that you do the activitys with and the skit with. Each day we did 2-3 activitys along with skit practise and camp diarys. On the Thursday night we  had a skit concert when the parents could come to see the children perform, The skits had to be entertaining for the audience and at least 2 minutes long and under 5 minutes. The camp diarys were for when we look back in 10 years we can remember camp El Rancho. On the Wednesday night we had a huge bonfire and we sat round and we sang songs and had s'mores. After that we could play play spotlight or go back to your cabin. After spotlight the parents hid and then they scared us as we walked by. We had to wake up at 7:00 but  to not get up before, we had to be in bed by 9:00. We had to have at least two showers to stay clean. We had to keep our cabin tidy and the teachers had to inspect.

I think you have done a incredible evaluation next time you could aim to challenge yourself a little more and if something isn't challenging enough make it.

One word 2016 portfolio sample

Description: This year we have set some goals using one word. My one word is growth. This year I want to make growth in my confidence to help me with being a house leader and a road patroller, I want to make growth in my after school activities to show my teacher. Using our one word we made one word art. We wanted to do this so we could display them in the classroom. Elly took pictures of us pretending to hold a sign. She printed them out them we measured the width between our arms and the length we wanted them. We did a few drafts in our writers notebook so that we could get it perfect for the real thing. We could do different themes and characters for the letters. After we found a design we liked we did it on the card. Next we cut it out and stuck it between our hands. Here is my art

Feedback/Feedforward I think that you did really well and it's nice and big so if you were far away you would see it but I think you could make the letters a bit more to do with growth but you did really well.

Evauation: Thanks Soph. I agree with Sophie I could make the letters more related to growth. I think I did well at making the letters bold. I think that next time I could put a bit more than effort in with how much time our teachers gave us I don't think I used my time wisely. I think camp will really help me make growth in my confidence. Having lots of leadership roles also helps.

Camp goals

Description: Next week we are going on camp at El rancho in waikane. So we are setting goals for ourselves. We have got a goal for ourselves and for the group. Here are my goals.

Active listening

Descripton: In class, we decided to make a video on listening. There are 3 types of listening; busy listening, me too listening and active listening.

Big Idea: Busy Listening is a type of listening where the talker is talking about something, but the listener isn't focused on listening, (e.g, playing a game on your iPad). Me Too Listening is a type of listening where the talker is talking about something, (e.g, what you did on the weekend), and the listener is interrupting saying what they did on the weekend. Active listening is when the talker is talking about what they did on the weekend, and the listener is paying full attention and asking questions.

Feedback/feedfoward: I think you did really well by explaining what each listening point is.

You could work on projecting your voice.- Sophie

Evaluation: I think we did really well at showing the different types of listening. Next time I could work on projecting my voice. I think I do really well at being a active listener but sometimes I can be a busy and a me too listener, so this year I am going to work on that.

Treaty of Waitangi

Description: In poutama we were given a task to make a presentation of what we have learnt about Waitangi Day. We could make movies, 3D models, posters etc. Sophie and I choose a 3D model, we made a paper model with scenes that matched the facts we found.

Big idea: we learnt about why the Europeans want New Zealand. We learnt that the United States and France also wanted New Zealand.

Feedback: I like how you put sold signs on New Zealand to show awareness of how much of the land got sold to the Europeans.
Feedfoward: I don't like how Tabitha is pointing at a wall she should be pointing at something.
-Sophie I
Evaluation: I like how our 3D model is unique and different from everyone else. We showed excellence and creativity in our project. I think we could work on making the facts more clear.

My presentation is multi because it's not relational or Uni
