Today 30 students came from Massey university. I got asked to share my learning with one of them. I shared my SLC learning and she was very impressed and thought that it was awesome that we had a word that summed up our goal. She thought that my writing was clever how in the mini stories I had a parents perspective.

Description: We wrote 3 different stories. One was about Camp, Embarrassing or Buddy Challenge Day and I chose to do my camp writing because I had lots of fun and I wanted to share that. We choose one of them to publish and then we edited them and put our stories on our blog. The purpose of this is to practice using pies which is pursade, inform, entertain and self. And I chose pursade.
Why your child should go to camp
Camp is an important of a child's school journey. Camp helps your child develop friendship. When your child comes home they are happy and confident and have learnt lots of things about themselves and have grown in their character. They will have tried new things and foods and taking risks.
They will come home with amazing stories to tell. Like I tried all the foods that was given to me and I liked them all but one. I tried lettuce for the first time and it was like a worm sliding down my throat. Then they will tell you that they would like all the meals at home.
The benefits are that they can have fun on camp while you are relaxing at home. It will be worth the money because your child will learn lots for their future.
If they come home with a story like I was on a horse called Mini, who was the most mysteriously miniature mini horse you have ever seen, then you're probably like “yeah that's cool”. But then mini got a bee sting while I was on her, then you're probably like “oh was she alright?” Then your child says “ the horse freaked out while I was on her and she was jumping around like crazy kicking everyone. Then you're probably like ahhhhh how is this safe? I want refunds was anyone helping my child? But don't worry there were instructors helping your child while on Horses, Rifles, Archery and Kayaks.
If your child comes home saying I went on the kayaks you're probably like “oh that's good Did you learn how to Kayak? Then your child will most likely say yes but I'm not very good, then most people say at least you tried. Least likely your child will say I tipped my Kayak over while i was on it, but to be fair it was slippery like a banana peel. Then you're most likely freaking out like crazy asking if they were alright if they were choking and how long they were under for?
This is good for your child because they are learning. If you send them to camp they will try new things. They may make mistakes but that is proof they are trying. The benefits are that your child can learn from their mistakes and find out what they were doing wrong.
If you know your child is a super shy kid or hasn't got many friends or doesn't make friends as easy as others. Just send them to school camp they will come back excited and having lots of new friends.
Come and see your child perform with their activity group on the skit concert, you can see your child work together in a group of a range of different people.
There may be a cost but if you want your child to be more confident and have more growth in their character then that's the price you have to pay. When you have gone to camp you have a whole bunch of butterflies in your stomach and that happy feeling that you went to camp and survived it and came home in one piece. If you want your child to go to camp then YAY you have been persuaded!! If you have not then have you been to school camp and realised how much fun it is!!! Because camp is an important part of a child's school journey.
Feedback/ feedfoward: I like how you did a guide to camp and how it's It is important for us to go
To camp.( I can't find anything bad about it )Ruby.
Evaluation: I think I could of used some similes and descriptive words to make my story more interesting. I think i did well at trying to pursade people.

Description: In poutama we have been learning about our family tree and the maori names for mum and dad and all of our family. First we made a draft and found out about our family then we started thinking about our presentation. Here is my presentation of my family tree
And here is some Maori terminology for you to learn
mama - Mum
papa - Dad
Tungane - Brother
Tuakana - Sister
Koro - Grandfather
mama Keke - Aunty
Papa Keke - Uncle
Tama - Boy
Tamahine - Girl
Awesome job Aria you could do a great job of a task in so little time next time you could add some colour to make it come to life and pop.
Evauation: I think that I did a good job at doing my family tree with the short amount of time I was given. Next time I could add a bit more detail and colour. I think that if I asked my parents a bit more about my family I could add some more family.

Description: On the 8th of March the year 5/6s went to Camp El Rancho in Waikene. We stayed for 4 days and 3 nights. We were involved in ten different activities such as the Pool, Archery, Mini Golf, Water Slide, Rifles, Horses, Low Ropes, Kayaking, Rafts and Team intiatives. We stayed in three different Cabin blocks, Poplar for the Girls, Oregen for the Boys and Willow for Boys and Girls. I stayed in Poplar lodge. I was in Cabin Three with all my friends. We were in ten activitie groups of around 9-12 people in each group. The activity groups were the people that you do the activitys with and the skit with. Each day we did 2-3 activitys along with skit practise and camp diarys. On the Thursday night we had a skit concert when the parents could come to see the children perform, The skits had to be entertaining for the audience and at least 2 minutes long and under 5 minutes. The camp diarys were for when we look back in 10 years we can remember camp El Rancho. On the Wednesday night we had a huge bonfire and we sat round and we sang songs and had s'mores. After that we could play play spotlight or go back to your cabin. After spotlight the parents hid and then they scared us as we walked by. We had to wake up at 7:00 but to not get up before, we had to be in bed by 9:00. We had to have at least two showers to stay clean. We had to keep our cabin tidy and the teachers had to inspect.

Description: This year we have set some goals using one word. My one word is growth. This year I want to make growth in my confidence to help me with being a house leader and a road patroller, I want to make growth in my after school activities to show my teacher. Using our one word we made one word art. We wanted to do this so we could display them in the classroom. Elly took pictures of us pretending to hold a sign. She printed them out them we measured the width between our arms and the length we wanted them. We did a few drafts in our writers notebook so that we could get it perfect for the real thing. We could do different themes and characters for the letters. After we found a design we liked we did it on the card. Next we cut it out and stuck it between our hands. Here is my art
Feedback/Feedforward I think that you did really well and it's nice and big so if you were far away you would see it but I think you could make the letters a bit more to do with growth but you did really well.
Evauation: Thanks Soph. I agree with Sophie I could make the letters more related to growth. I think I did well at making the letters bold. I think that next time I could put a bit more than effort in with how much time our teachers gave us I don't think I used my time wisely. I think camp will really help me make growth in my confidence. Having lots of leadership roles also helps.
